A friend showed me this last nite: While attempting to extract a badly stuck sleeve, the sleeve fractured causing an improvised sleeve puller to punch this hole in the side of the cylinder bore.

Opinions please - can this hole repaired, and if so how? Or is this beyond salvage the block should be scrapped? (When repaired the tractor will be used for occasional light duty service - pulling a wagon, raking hay, etc. - no heavy drawbar work.)

Thanks!! ...Bob M

Bob,

I had a similar problem with my H. Did some research and decided to get a replacement block. My H wasn't as bad of shape at the picture you have posted here. I bet there was a problem before the removal of the sleeve. Replacement blocks are not impossible to find and I was pleased to get one for my H for $100.00.

I had to have a block repaired for a problem like this last year. What you need to do, is find a machine shop that has the capability of installing a repair sleeve that can be sized to the original block diameter. This will basically mean the machine shop will rebore the current block diameter to accept a repair sleeve that will cover the damaged area, and restore the block bore to it's original diameter. If I remember right this repair cost me around $150 to have done on an H.
