Mine are dished in to fit 30" rows. Don't bother me which way. Still have about 3-4" from end of axle. Besides put 2 sets of weights on the outside and they stick out making it look like a BMF!LOL What ever makes you happy!

Interestingly enough, in one of the IH books it shows a picture tractors on the IH assembly line(I forget which book and which tractors). What struck me about the picture was that all the tires appeared to be mounted "backwards", with the lugs facing the wrong direction. After reading this post, I'm betting it was done this way on purpose for shipping with the expectation that the recieving dealers would simply swap them side for side after delivery to have the wider tread width. Makes sense now!

Back quit a few years ago we had one of our tractors (a Super M) that we would duel up for various reasons. This was the only tractor that we kept the dish in on. It was just a lot easyer sliding the wheel in on the axle when adding duels.

You could gain a more narrower wheel spacing by being dished in for what ever the reason maybe. It is manditory for inside wheel to be dished in for duals. I believe most all will agree that wheel's look better dished out. Not really any wrong or right way, but unless you have a legitiment reason, you will probably want the wheel's dished out for less axle strain and better looks. I have seen pictures of new tractors being shipped with wheels dished in. Highly likely for the factory to of installed the wheel's in this nature for the soul reason of shipping. It is probably fair to say that most of these wheels were changed around by the dealer or new tractor owner after delivery. Of coarse there was probably no doubt that some weren't changed at the time, and some that were changed were changed back to dished in after a need arised. Anyways, there was most likely a scramble up or toss up so to speak when tractors were released and so on and not a right way for them to be from factory.

What I have seen in the midwest was done to keep wheels from clogging with mud.

As long as you can get narrow enough with wheels dished out you are putting les strain on the axles, for shipping when new by dishing in and setting at narrowest setting, too narrow for fenders, have to add later at dealers, were able to get an extra tractor on load and save on shipping, unless you have special conditions that require dished in for best use of tractor dish out and in narrow position, mounted pickers required dish out with wheels slid completly out and put a verry heavy load on axles causing them to break, wheels dished in and set out to get wider tread load the axles in same manner as the picker tho not as much, with dish in and duals on would minimize over load on axles

When farmers went to 30 inch rows they had to turn the wheels around to use cultvator.

I have seen factory photos of the wheels dished in, presumeably for narrower tread I agree that it looks funny. I think there is an optical illusion that makes the tractor look more tippy, even if the wheels are slid all the way out, so the tires are where they would be with the wheels dished out and not slid all the way out on the axels. I think a lot of is it what we are used to seeing. In the 60s we put big tires on the back of our muscle cars for more traction. Imagine how it would look if the kids today put big tires on the front of their honda civics.

No Honda here, front wheel drive will never be sporty in my book. Rear wheel drive and V8 power for me - 95 Thunderbird LX 4.6 liter

no honda here, either. I am a diehard fan of the CAPRICE. actually they seem to have quite the following with us under 25-ers. not as big as the import and sports car crowd, but you see quite a few on weekends cruising town, causing mischeif (it's the constant mischeif that's bad--dont tell me that you HAVE to do a burnout at every light you stop at...)
some people put pretty wide tires on the caprice. you can get 275/55/15 on the stock rims and there is plenty of room front and rear...
anyway back to my first love...farmalls! especially the 656 i spent a lot of my prebirth 9 months on...that's got wider than average tires on it....18.4-34 i've seen a few others but most have the 38 inch rims and 15.5 or 16.9 width.

Hey, not all of us kids drive Hondas and other imports. The muscle car still has some followers in thier teens and twenties. I guess they are probably the same ones that are addicted to tractor pulling. Ha

I did mine like that because alot of the pics Ive seen of them being loaded or already loaded on the trains or sitting at dealers were dished in,but the main reason I have mine like that is becuase I can get just a lirrle more width and still be able to load it on my trailer. The difference is only an inch or two.

There isn't really an inside or outside to these wheels as much as there is a dished in or dished out.Either way is OK,but I'm with you,I think dished out does look better.

I like the look of dished out much better. But when I mount a second set wheels/rims/tires on an M for improved floation, the inside set must be dished in. So being lazy, when I remove the duals I just slide the inners out but don't turn them around and change sides. If I had an overhead hoist system I might be more inclined to make 'em look right.
