I went to a auction today. And boy I wish I would of taken more money,,, so I could buy everything there. They had a IH 656 Hydro. 6,000 hrs. Fresh tranny overhaul (2,000 in itself) sold for 2,200!!!! A IH 856 not excellent not the best just a average tractor good tires. Sold for 2,400. IH 986 fresh engine and tranny overhaul sold for 4,400. A case IH 485??? I think that was the number about 45HP anyways it was average and it sold for 2,100. I couldnt believe it. I was there after a round baler and it hadnt sold yet so I was holding my money and then it ended up going for twice its value. Now I wish I would of bought the IH's and brought them home. Just wanted to let you know

Brad: Too little you say, many of these old tractors are over priced. Try rebuilding one and getting paid well for your labour. Try selling one for parts and see how much inventory you have at end of year. These tractors for the most part have been overpriced for the past 10 years. A little reality will not hurt. That is what an auction is all about.

What do you think is a good price for an 806 in "reality"? It has a cab, 18.4 38s about 75% tread, prolly 3000-3500 hours. 3 pt, diesel, runs OK TA works. No weights.

FM: In my neck of the woods it is hard for me to imagion an 806 with only 3,500 hours. Most tractors here see a min of 400 hours per year and a lot of the larger tractors are going the 1,000 hours per year. You sound like you are absolutely sure this tractor has only 3,500 hours. At 3,500 hours this tractor should feel like a new tractor to drive. Controlls such as steering, shift levers, throttle, hydraulics, pto and pedals should have that new feeling, no looseness, no side play.

The 806 was one of the exceptionally good tractors. One in good working order should work alongside or out perform any new tractor in that hp class. It has dual live PTO, 3point hitch cat 2 or 3 lower link sencing. As a working tractor Farmalls became a lot more valuable with the introduction of 04 and 06 series configuration change moving operator foreward and allowing rear hitches to raise implements to a good height. Steering linkages improved greatly at that time also, you could put a 06 tractor on a small tractor job and have it manuver just as well.

The items one must concern themself with on a low hour 06 or 56 tractor are items that deteriorate from lack of use. You have chosen a difficult one to acess. Get a guy with Farmall experience ( 2 minds better than one, I always find having a critic along when looking at anything used is valuable) and a dyno, go over it with a five tooth comb aproach. Value of this tractor could vary widely. If in super condition and you can put it to work with confidence it is worth a lot of money. Remember this; an end to end complete rebuild on an 806 today could exceed $20,000. Not likely but COULD.

Yes, that is the actual hours. The gentlemen bought it, and then went to war a couple years later. While he was gone his BIL decided he didn't like being a relief milker, and sold all the ground but the home place. This tractor has pretty much just been plowing the drive, and plowing, disking, and cultimulching a garden each year since. A couple years ago he loaned it to a friend of mine who used it hard on a 15' batwing mower because their deere was down. They used it pretty hard at times, and it didn't seem to have any problems. They also plowed with it some, pulling a 5-16 plow. It didn't even break a sweat.

I've been to auctions like that where things went too cheap. Would drive back by there in a few weeks and see those items sitting back in the guys barn. Did he really let them go that cheap??? Just a thought.
