Was changing the hydraulic piston a big teardown job without splitting the tractor? Is everything accessible from outside?

Thanks.

I've got the tractor in the shop. He's going to flush the hydraulics. Give you a follow up when he's done.

Hi Blue Lite
I have been reading your posts on jerky hydraulics.Ihave a 624 which used to jerk up and down on the three point hitch.I was/still am very new to tractors so I imagined all sorts of problems. When I found and read an operators manual I found I was lifting the three point hitch with the draft lever in the "dead zone".Pushed the draft lever right down and all was well.
I just posted this because I don`t see anyone mentioning it-and you never know.If this is too obvios for words I apologise in advance.

I have a pretty good IH hydraulic troubleshooting manual plus parts manuals for a 444 if you need any more info.

Cost?? FREE!!! Like most of the help on this forum! The Troubleshooting is only 2 pages. Send me your E-mail and it's yours. The parts section for a 444 is about 10 pages. I could try to scan it if you like.

The Hydraulic unit on the 424 is under the seat. No need to split the tractor. You drain the hydraulic unit and then remove the cover. That gives you access to change out the piston which is internal to the hydaulic unit. The guy that did mine for me did it by feel without draining the oil. I don't think you can do that without being an expert. He obviously had done it more than once before. It took him about 20 minutes to get it apart and I think about the same to put it back.

That's great!

Some tractor MFG didn't have the common sense to isolate the hydraulics components from the transmission. I was concerned this was the case.

Thanks for the speedy response.
