Flushing out Hydraulic Systems with Diesel Oil?

A mechanic I spoke to about my hydraulic lift problem says most likely is dirty oil.

He says he can flush the system out with diesel oil and refill with clean hydraulic. He says filter screens don't have small enough mesh and stuff still gets through. He says you'd be surprised at the crud that this method would get out.

What do you think, should I get the job done?

My touch control manual says it is imperative only to use new hydraulic fluid to flush the system with. If you need more filtration, put an inline filter on the return.

I'll go with your answer, gav41H. Just flush the old hydraulic oil with new oil. And you can never filter your oil enough - more is better. As for those "additives" ... well.. Slick 50 is nothing more than SAE 50 oil and some ground-up Teflon powder added to it. Teflon is a solid - something I don't want in my hydraulic system. Unless you know what is in your oil additives - and they are very spooky about not telling you this - I'd steer away from them. If anything, use an oil flush that has solvent and cleaning qualities. Possibly engine oil flush, but I'd be weary of going even with that stuff.

I've done that before and it works good but I always put a coulpe of oounces of super lubricant in the diesel and then run it a little to circulate. When I say super lube, I'm talking about Slick or Power Up just so it will have lubrication during the flush.

I think it depends on how offill lookin the oil that is in it now, if the oil doesnt look to offly bad id just change it, but if oil is really nasty looking i would fill the system and run all functions enough to push out all bad oil then make sure when u replace oil run threw to make sure u have all diesel fuel possible to get out

Concerning this diesel oil flush of the hyd. system--what models are you talking about. I have a 756 IHC would it be ok to flush this system with diesel fuel. Do you just fill the hyd's up with diesel than run the tractor--do you drive the tractor or just turn the steering wheel and raise the 3 pt. arms etc,
Thankyou
