Help ! I am looking for information on the feasability of changing my DT 361 engine over to a DT407 . The specifications on the two engines are the same they even use the same cylinder head . The difference is in the bore & stroke , I believe the bore can be changed but I'm not sure where the differences are in the stroke. Any ideas?

Brad, if my memory serves me right, the block is wider on a DT-407 because of the bigger bore. The heads might be the same, but the head gaskets are different between the 2. They both have dry sleeves, but the 407 has a longer stroke than the 361. On the turbo models, the DT-361s used 2 different engine oil coolers, later one I believe is the same as the 407. I'm sure there are other little differences between the 2 engines.

Brad, because these engines use the same connecting rod either the piston pin location on the piston or the deck height of the block will be different. The camshaft is different also but the cam bearing are the same so you would need to check lift specs also. This project may be feasible but appears costly.

any external measurements I can do indicate no differances in block length ,height ,or width also, according to my IT shop the cam journals show the same measurements. Is there any books or archives out that would have the detailed information I am looking for.

Thankyou for all coments.

Brad I beleve if my memory serves me right the 1206 had A dry sleeve and the 407 has A wet sleeve. The 407 does have A slightly longer stroke.
