My Father-In-Law has a 656 he bought new,we are having carburetor rebuilt,it has a ih carburetor part# 678363c91 0n little tag on carb.It has a electric shut off selenoid which screws into back end of carb bowl.It has a long needle that goes up inside carb.It has a external adjust screw in the end of selenoid. We were told that you cannot buy a new selenoid with adjusting screw.the new ones are non adjustable. Does anyone know if the adjustable type is still available, if so please give part # to order. We were told that the carb. will not run properly without the adjustable selenoid,it adjusts the high speed fuel adjustment,is this correct or does this selenoid just serve as shut off, if so why were the original one adjustable?

I've noticed that late mdl. JD 30&4020's use shutoff solenoids with adj. screws. You might compre IH's with theirs (plunger length\threads) I don't know if they will interchange but will check into one on our next carb job.

I assume that your carburetor is similar to the one on my 806. My original carburator had an adjustable solendoid on it. It is for shutting off fuel when the power is shut off. The new carburetor that I bought did not have the adjustable solenoid valve, but it works just fine.

To my knowledge the selenoid has nothing to do with the tractor operation but merely shuts the fuel off when you shut off the key.The same as shtting the fuel off at the sediment bowl on older tractors.
