Snow is almost gone, so thinking about tractors again. My super C has truck tires on front. What are the correct size tripple rib tires for this tractor with wide front end? I have a lever that has a quadrant like a throttle lever, but on the left side, just about where your clutch foot goes. It is not hooked to anything. What is that supposed to be for? This machine does not have a hydralic temp guage up on the touch controls, but the clip for the capilary tube is still there. Where does that guage attach at the hydralics? I think someone makes the guage new, or maybe I can get a used one. Something is goofy with the steering. It steers more to one side than the other. Do you suppose someone had the gearbox apart and got the gears out of time? The steering pitman arm has been repaired, and not too pretty. Where can I find a replacement? Can I get the rubber snubbers for the front axel, or do I have to make them? Thanks for any help offered.

Bill, when I broke a spring the truck would not pull to either side but it would turn sharper to one side than the other. Again I don't know if this is your problem but the symptems you describe sound exactly the same. I would make some measurments from a fixed point somewhere at the rear of the tractor, anywhere you will not have interference from the steering wheel, controls etc. to, say the top of each spindle. If the measurments are the same at least you would know if the front axle is mounted straight. If not you may have found at least part of your problem.

Bill, you can buy the rubber bump stops but they are a terrible price, about 45 dollars U.S. I believe. I'm going to try making some from a rubber boat trailer roller that I bought for 12 dollars Canadian and has enough material to make at least four bumpers, and its just the right diameter but the rubber is a bit too hard but I'm going to give it a try. If you want to get the real thing, check out O.E.M. Tractor Parts, for Highcrop rubber bumpers, part # 12522D, phone 1-800-283-2122 or 309-664-0526

Hi Bill, Concerning your pulling to the one side. Check and see if both tires are straight, thinking
one of them is straight and the other one is off in another direction? Hope this helps! Bob

Bill, don't know if this will apply to your situation but when I was driving heavy trucks I would occasionally break a front spring causing the front axle to shift to the rear slightly on one side. First indication I had was the truck would turn sharper in one direction than the other. A quick check with a tape measure might be worth your time. Hope this helps.

Thanks, but it is not pulling to one side. It turns more to one side than the other when the steering wheel is at it's limits. I suspect the gears are out of time.

Both the Touch Control temperature gauge and the rubber bumpers are available from OEM Tractor Parts, 1-800-283-2122. According to their latest catalog, the gauge is $68 and the bumpers $24/pair. The sensor for the gauge screws into the center of the filter screen cover on the left side of the hydraulic unit, next to where the steering shaft passes it. While you are at it, why don't you consider getting a set of "Super C" decals?

The lever by the clutch is for your radiator shutter control. If it isn't hooled up, check to see if the shutter is missing or not. If it is in place and closed, you will overheat the cooling system. Helps with fast warmup and keeping the engine at a good operating temp even when running slow & easy. Keep your eye on the temp gauge; just like all of the rest of us do, right???
If you are going to keep this machine, get a parts manual and owners manual from IHC or book merchants listed in the YT site.

Thanks, thought it might be for shutters, but no shutters on it, so wondered. Books would be good, especially with pictures.

Bill, it should have 5.50x16 three rib tires. I don't have a clue what the lever down near the clutch is...I cannot see it in the pic. The touch control temp guage is available through several sources, I think we just got ours from K&K antique tractors, it mounts up on top of the quadrant for the touch control levers. It sounds like your steering is out of time, maybe in the gear box, or in the front bolster. I don't know about parts for the wide front, they are tough to find...try Art at Goodrich tractor Parts in Newark Valley, NY (607)642-3293, or Stoyell Auto Parts (Dick) in Moravia, NY...don't have the #, but call information in the 315 area code(Upstate, NY) Pete

Good looking machine. The temp gauge screws into the touch control unit on the left hand side or clutch side. Not sure on what the handle is you asked about. I put new tires on mine last summer but I can't recall the size right now. When I was restoring mine I by mistake ordered two temp gauges from Carter & Grunwald. Long story on how that happened, I missplaced the first one and found it after I was all done with the tractor. I think it was 40 or $50. Let me know if you can use one. Can't help any with your steering questions.
