Super A getting closer

well I'm getting closer to starting the super a after a engine rebuild. One thing I didn't do was replace any parts in the oil pump, I took it apart, didn't really know if it was good or bad, but it was a pump. I've checked the gauge using compressed air to calibrate it and it's ok. So I put the battery back in, and with the plugs out started cranking, I was expecting to see the gauge move but it didn't. I was told by the engine rebuiler that I should have pressure before trying to start. So ? what should I do ? Should I be priming the pump somehow ? should i try to start it anyway ? I've got tonns of the prelube over everything.

Thanks in advance.
Brian

Brian, I would think with all that prelube all over moving parts you should be OK. You could crank engine over with starter and just pull coil wire so it wont start that should prime pump. Let me know how you make out. Im getting ready to pull my 49 Super A in the garage in a couple weeks to start on it.

Thanks for your reply Scotty, will try to start her up later this week. I guess if I don't see the gauge go within 10 seconds I'll shut her down and see what I can.

Thanks again.
Brian.
