Help - - I accidently droped a nickle size washer down the manifold exhaust pipe on our SMTA. Can the washer work it's way into the engine? Any thoughts on how to get it out without taking off the mainfold. Your thoughts/help would greatly be appreciated.

Your best bet is a magnet....if the exhaust valve is open it could be laying in there...that ain't good.....if it fell into the cyl.....you got to take the head off.....good luck.....From now on, when working on a engine, always stuff shop rags into all these openings !!!!!

Why couldn't You check thru the spark plug hole? I kinda like the idea of the small plastic/vinyl hose on the hop vac. Either down the exh. or thru the plug hole. Hope the washer was steel so it'd work with a magnet. I had a guy I knew drop a small socket into the intake port of a Detroit 318 in a 5020 deere. It wedged between the head of the valve and the port wall. Head came off before the socket came out!

Hi,

It PROBABLY would get blown out, unless it has already bounced into an exhaust port and is sitting on top of the valve - in which case it is liable to slide on into the cylinder the minute you turn the engine over to start it (or also if it happened to land on open exhaust port and is already in a cylinder).

I would get it out without turning the engine over if it were me - I accidently destroyed a piston in an HD-800 MM engine one time with a somewhat similar problem...

Good luck,
Howard H.

well fist it cant get in the intake that is right. but it can get into the exauste, and you better belive thatit can. now the exauste doesnt have enough force to blow it out. a magnet is the only way to ge it out without takeing off the manifold

The manifold is easy enough to diassemble, just remove the carburetor first. Piece of cake! Hope this helps! Bob
