Just ordered my rods and have 2 questions I need help with.
#1 The bent shafts are 1/4"OD and my shop manual
says they should be 9/32"OD on my IH240U 123ci and
forC-135-146-153 engines so whoes right?
#2 To change all shafts is it OK to remove valve lever shaft in 1 piece or compress springs to each
valve 1 at a time to install new push rods? Yes I've never done it before and will have more
?? about setting valve clearence later.THX Bill

My best guess would be that as time passed and improvments were made, the diameter was increased. The most important specification in going to be the length. We are only talking about the pushrod being .044 thicker and have never seen an older tractor engine yet where side to side clearance is a problem. All things being equal, it should make for a stronger pushrod. Rick

Bill - I cannot answer your rod diameter question. However I've removed pushrods on a Super H simply by depressing the valve end of the rocker arm (using an assistant to push on the rocker with a scrap of of wood), then moving the top of rod to the side and pulling out. Reverse the process to install the new pushrod.

Bob thanks for impute and would rather work safe than sorry like use a hollow tube with slot to
slip over lever. Still wonder about dia. though as parts man said he would it when the rods came in. Bill

Bill - For my rocker arm "pusher" I sawed a slot in an old hickey axe handle - it worked great.

I gotta agree with Rick - fitting a slightly larger OD pushrod should not be a problem so long as the dimensions at both ends match the lifter and pushrod adj screw sockets.
