There is a H on Ebay item#252134829, claimed to be a 1953 model, serial 468411. This is too high for an H isn't it? If it were a Super H would it have a visibly different hydraulic pump for the live hydraulics? Link

I have a early super H (low thousands serial) WITHOUT live hydraulics. I learned not too long ago that live hydros were not offered on the first super H's.

According to Guy Fay's IHC Data Book neither H nor Super H S/N's go that high . Also the photo shows band brakes - 1952 was the last year them.

How about this? Perhaps that last "1" character in the S/N is really an "I" (indicates a Rockford clutch). S/N 46841I would make that tractor a 1940 with the Rockford clutch.

Band brakes were gone before 1952. My dad bought a new H in 51 with disc brakes, I don't have serial and that tractor sold on the east coast of Canada may well have been a 50. My 1953 SA was not sold there until 1955.

On the Rockford clutch, I have two tractors and J indicates Rockford clutch on my tractors. I however suspect your theory is correct just not the Rockford clutch idea. Some kind sole might just have decided to add a digit. This is one item that does not go by good auctions, bad serials.

Per Guy's book both "I" and "J" denote the Rockford clutch. (I've never seen an "I" suffix however....)
