Started a restore on a 49 C. When I took the head off and cleaned off the gasket and silicone, I noticed a small crack running the length of the block at the area of the water jacket. How can this be economically fixed? Found a ton of pepper in the radiator as well. Other than that, she started and ran really well. Thanks for the help!

I dont know if any one has used this product but it is said to work on Engine heads. It is called HTS-735 II. It is a fluxless brazing rod with a very low melting point that can be applied with a propane torch.

The permanent repair is to have a machinist with experience at 'stitching' block and head castings handle the crack. The site of the crack is alternatively drilled, tapped, then a plug insert is screwed in place. A small overlap of each insert is made and repeated the full length of the crack extending slighly beyond what can be seen. JBWeld is great for many things, but for permanence, this is not one of them. Nickel welding of castings is extremely risky except for the experienced welder.
