I am going to change the fluid in the rearend of my M, since it has sat for 15 years. And I really don't remember when it was ever changed. I have heard some people put Hy Tran in, but others say to only put 85W in. What does everyone recommend? Temps don't get below 0 very often and I will probably not be using it then.

Thanks,
Bob

I used 85w140 in my H. Do not use hy-tran in the rear end of your M.

I use 90W in both of my MD's. Both of them 48 models and never had any problems with them.

i always use 140 weight gear oil in our m's. it's thinner than the old oil that was in it and it might not leak as easily with the heavier oil and after sixty years of wear there is plenty of clearance for the heavier oil to do it's job. our tractors are working tractors.

80 thru 140 is okay. It should be labeled GL5. This stands for gear lube 5 which will stand the load where the gear teeth meet.
