Starting to work on the Super C. Today we repositioned the rear wheels to be even, so it will look right with the fenders on. Repainted the fenders and hood and grill. I was not satisfied with the finish on the paint job when I got the parts. Some of you may remember me asking about the steering going more to one side than the other. I found that the steering arm (pitman arm) is bent, and has been welded. Does anybody know where I can get a good used one, for a wide front end? Also, my control valve for my quick hitch is leaking. Where can I get a seal kit?

Ok lets get the details on the paint.
I used just regular IH paint on my H and it does not look any where as nice as that paint job.
What diod you use to get it to shine like that?

I am using PPG omni paint with hardener. No thinner added. I use a cheap ($125) HVLP gun, and use a bit more pressure than they advise. Very little overspray, uses less paint, easier to see and better for the breathing (use a good respirator). Those parts came with tisco paint on them, and they were not at all shiny, and had been done at a body shop. Cheap paint=cheap results. This omni paint is about 1/4 the price of the good PPG concept paint that I did my F20N with, and the results are pretty much as good, certainly good enough for a tractor. It cost about $100 for a gallon of IH red and a quart of hardener. Dont think you can use the cheap $40 a gallon enamal and get the same results.

I don't know what he used, but I discovered that if you buy a good paint gun it makes a big difference. I have been using one of those HVLP spray guns and had really good results with regular IH paint. Several years ago I used my old Sears spray gun on my Farmall A and it has a lot of orange peel. On my Super C and MD I used the new HVLP spray gun and got a real smooth finish. Roger

I use the old Harbor Frieght special. $15
I some times forget to clean them. Out they go!!!
I did find it sprays better when you thin it out some. When I did my H ( 1st time I ever painted any thing) I sprayed it right out of the can.
It turned into a hard job.
This last time when I painted my Baler. I thined it out some and it did a much better job. Sure went through the paint though. Alot faster like 3 times as much.
I think when I paint my 300 I may try some of that hardener I have been hearing about. Dont know how that will go.

Looks like I am about two weeks away from being where you are on my Super C! Makes me excited about throwing some paint! Any after-the-fact advice will be appreciated before I start painting mine. Your sheet metal looks great! Are you using a hardener?

I am using PPG omni which they sell as a low price urethane, but it smells like enamal to me. Yes, hardener is added. They also say to add thinner, but I dont, since the stuff on a tractor is sort rough, and it helps smooth things up a bit to have it thick.

IH dealer can order any part for the valve except for the housing or the complete valve. The boot seemed a little much, but you gotta have it.

Paing looks good now!!!! What kind did you end up using?

Do either one of you guys have a used Super C sleeve you would sell? An old buddy of mine needs one and can't afford a new one for it.
