YTers,
On a Farmall such as a Super C, would you prefer the factory fast hitch or an aftermarket 3ph? This would be a working tractor and already have a modern compact with a 3ph.
Thanks,Bill

It depends a factory made fasthich is a lot easier to hook up and it takes a lot less space to store.

Bill - Like Hugh says, if you get a 3 point adapter for the 2 point fast hitch, you can use both style implements. If you have not 2 point eq. to use, then you would be ready to use the 3 point ones that are probably more prevalent to see around the farms nowadays. If the Super C is original with the fast-hitch on, I would try to save it on there for sure!! And then you can use an adapter assembly, or the prong arms that have hole outlets (for 3 point use) and insert in the fast hitch. For hooking up the 3 point items. We have a Farmall 350 with fast-hitch. We have the arms with 3 point holes, that go into the fast hitch, and it does work well for the more available 3 point equipment. You have to be sure you have a top link hookup on your SC to have the availability of the 3'rd link use. It is nice to be able to use whatever you can this way !!

Bill: I would go for the Super C or 200 or 230, all basically the same, with fast hitch and a good 3 point adapter. It will make tractor available for many uses and implements. I wouldn't go expecting to make all those implement changes from tractor seat. In theory it may work that smooth, in practice I doubt it. Mine doesn't anyway.

I have a Super C with Fast Hitch and an after-market 3 Pt. from central Tractor. It gives me the best of both worlds. Fast Hitch implements are great; the only drawback is that you have to have them whereas 3 pt. stuff is all over the place.

I just purchased a IHC 200 for the purpose of using the fast hitch. It sits along side a JD 420 with a 3 pt and its interesting to compare the merits of both. I seen a demonstration of the fast hitch at the Wis state fair in the 50s and it was the best marketing show I ever seen. It was done with 4 Super Cs doing the hitching and unhitching to square dance music.

Its too bad the fast hitch did not become the standard but it was probably due to some big egos and politics with the major mfg.

Maybe someone from that era can shed some light on what happened

Deere offered to buy the rights to it and IH refused -- the rest is history.

If it was me, I'd stay with the Fast Hitch. That system is very slick, and you can change implements while sitting on the tractor.

You can get a set of adapters that fit into the 2 pt fast hitch slots and a bracket that the top link mounts onto. I think I saw them on the www.worksaver.com web site. I just changed my IH 140 over to 3 pt. (3 pt. equip is easy to find where I'm at, 1 pt isn't) Hope that helps, just my 2 cents....

Bill,

I prefer the fast hitch over a 3 point. With a fast hitch, there is no need to get off the tractor to hitch or unhitch an implement.

Finding implements for the fast hitch is not hard. I've seen just about every implement I could want at auctions locally. But didn't always have the cash to get them though!

Just my opinion.

Keith

My personal opinion would be the fast hitch, I guess that it depends on what you are going to do with the tractor though.

I was thinking of dedicating my newer tractor to using the backhoe and finish mowing; a Super C for plowing & discing, maybe bush hog work.
I've never seen a fast hitch and don't know how they work.
Thanks,
Bill

Just a thought, if you went with the fast-hitch you could probably buy (or make) a fast-hitch to 3pt. adaptor. Then you can use 3pt. implements when you need to. Hope this helps. SAm in NS
