I am wondering if you have to hook all 4 wires up to the alt. that hooked in to gen.? I know 1 goes to battery direct.1 goes to amp light on dash and it looks like the other 2 go to voltage regulator. Do I hook all them up or can I eliminate some? Thank You Brandon

Brandon,
You may need to give some more info before you can get a good answer to your question. Some alternators are internally regulated, some aren't - some have 2 wire hook ups, some 1 wire, some 3 wire with jumpers, and so on -- and most Farmall generators have two wires, Field and Armature.

If you have a Delco alternator, maybe you may be able to short cut the whole Q&A thing by doing a search for a link to BobM's wiring diagrams on this forum. He's done a lot of good work diagramming about every possible conversion system for a lot of Farmalls.

Brandon,
Since it's a Delco, let's ASSUME it's an SI setup to be wired in 2/3 fashion, and that this diagram will get you going. If know it's a Delco SI jumpered for 1 wire use, just hook into the battery from the BAT terminal on the alt. If you don't have an indicator light, use a 10 ohm 10 watt resistor between the number 1 terminal on the alternator and an ignition source to properly excite the alternator. You may see the alternator not start charging until you reach higher revs. An easy way to fix this is with a smaller pulley.

Note that you will not need your regulator in this setup as the Delco is internally regulated. As I said, I'm assuming you have a Delco SI...double check that. Also please check BobM's diagrams for the complete wiring setup for the load accessories, etc.
