in regards to my other message, i bought a kit of lit up guages that are lit up when headlights are turned on (looked fancy so i bought them and was cheap) the coolant is messured in degrees. when i pulled the harrow, up and over farmable terraces, it reached a little over 200, is it bad or not? I need to know about the MAX temp. on a hot day. I may have to do haying with it or load round bales. and also, i put a $48 delco remmy alternator on it when i converted to 12v, and when i got done harrowing, it wouldn't start, i heard a click, but after about two hours, it could start. Would the alternator (with no internal regulator) put so much juice into the battery that the celenoid got hot to where it wouldnt work? just a thaught

Bryce - 200 degrees when pulling hard is fine. If you run 50-50 antifreeze in the cooling system and have a good pressure cap on the radiator you can safely run up to 220 degrees or so.

Sounds like your new alternator is not charging the battery. If is is not internally-regulated, you’ll need to wire an external regulator to the alternator in order for it to work.

An alternator must have some means of regulating voltage. Do you have a separate regulator?
An unregulated alternator can do serious damage to the battery and other electrical components.
Go to the ARTICLES topic on the left side of this page and look for 12 volt conversion info.
