I recently bought a Super M in good condition but the clutch pedal is loose on the shaft. It almost misses the deck when it is in its return position. What is the best way to fix it? I haven't checked it out to determine if the wear is in the shaft, pedal, or both. Has anyone had any experience with this problem?

Hands down it's the brass bushing in the pedal. Take the pedal off and like Bob says take it to someone who can fabricate a new one (my dad is a welder/machinist so he just took mine to work). The old fix on my tractor was a rod welded from the platform out 4-5 inches, and sure it worked, but I put that new bushing in and took that rod off. Feels great now. Good luck on an awesome tractor.

This is a very common problem with the M and Super M. The shaft isn't too expensive to replace and you can take the clutch pedal to a machine shop and they can drill it out and place a bushing in it to match the new shaft.

I had the local machine shop make the shaft and bushing. Cost me $14.00.

I had this problem on an 806 - I knocked out the bushing in the pedal, and replaced it with a IH brass/bronze bushing that was listed to go out on the end of the rockshaft arms for the Fast Hitch. It fit just fine and pretty well cured the problem.
