I got a belt driven sliage chopper from a friend of mine. It is on steel wheels, it was in a covered shed and is a mcCormick deering, I belted my 36 john deere to it and all parts are working, and does not show any wear,( this is my first red product on the place) Is their a model number or ser# on it somewhere, I bought it for Yard Art, But it would be ashame to let it set outside and freeze up. (alot of surface rust) Thanks Ben,,

Ben: Just have another suggestion to add. CH Wendel's book 150 Years of IH shows about 20 pictures of these. Like one of the other guys said many models and variations of models. They are just too close in looks to try a description. If you could get your hands on a copy you could probably pick it out as his photos are quite good on these.

IH made about twenty models of ensilage cutters/blowers from 1912 to 1955. Since the model number was painted it is probably faded off long ago. McCormick used a "type" letter to indicate the model. From what I can determine the letter series was from "A" through "G" with a number series following. The number series varied but was usually indicated by a combination, i.e. 10-E, 12-C, 12-A, 12-E, etc.

If you can get up to Burton, TX on Saturday (May 3)for the Burton Cotton Gin Festival you might be able to ask one of the old timers about your cutter.

I found one of those in a tree row, and dad bought an old book, and we can't figure the age. If perhaps you find a way to find out would you let me know? A feller had one at a show two years ago working fine, but I didn't get to go last year to talk to him. Thanks Jake
