Just finished getting my Farmall Cub operational for paraide use .... Found the battery dead and I mean dead. Unhooked battery in November for winter storage and it had good charge. Question: Did the battery drain because the tractor is positive ground? I disconnected the positive ground cable from the battery case. Does it matter how the battery was originally charged for the tractor to work properly? I don't want to kill a new battery. Could be the battery just went dead in the 6 months of non use. I am confused. Thanks for any info.

Question: Did the battery drain because the tractor is positive ground?

Answer: No.

Question: Does it matter how the battery was originally charged for the tractor to work properly?

Answer: All batteries are charged the same way. Positive to Positive and Negitive to Negitive.

Question: Could be the battery just went dead in the 6 months of non use?

Answer: Yes, very likely.

You didn't say how old the battery was, but if you had either cable disconnected, there is no way for the battery to have gone dead by current drain. If the battery will not take a charge or hold a charge, it has failed. (It does happen.)
