Can someone please tell me this ratio ? It's not obvious to me after quickly going through the service manual. I'm using a mechanical tack hooked up to the pto output to set the idle.

Thanks in advance

Brian Toronto.

My Owners Manual (1951) has the following specifications for engine and PTO speeds. Low idle 500 to 550; Max. no load 1540; Max. full load 1400. PTO speeds - Low idle 203; Max. no load 595; Max. full load 541. Hope this sorts it out for you. Sid.

There is a fixed ratio between the engine and the PTO shaft. It depends on what tractor you have. The PTO turns at 540 when the engine is at the rated governed loaded speed. Per my Super H manual, the governed speed is 1650 rpm divided by the PTO at 540 rpm or 3.05 to 1. If you have a different tractor with a different full load governed speed the ratio would be different. The engine idle speed should be about 400 to 450 on an H with a 132 rpm on the pto shaft. On a C or H, max idle speed is 1815 rpm, loaded governed speed is 1650 rpm. PTO speed is 540, but this probably occurs a couple hundred rpm below full throttle. So unless you have a way to load the engine, I don't think you can set engine speed off the pto.

Loaded governed speed on a Super A is 1400 rpm, manual does not give max idle speed, but is probably about 1550. PTO speed is the standard 540.

My service manual for a 100 states 164 pto rpm at low idle no load 425, 541 pto rpm at full load 1400, and 609 pto rpm at fast idle no load 1575. My old IH dealer uses a super A parts book to lookup what I need a says there is no such thing as a 100. Hope this helps

All you need to do to set the low idle is to adjust the idle stop screw stop screw so that it doesn't stall, and the idle mixture so that it runs smooth. The exact low idle rpm is not that important. Max idle speed is.
