Check out the picture link below. This is an M that is the latest of my project tractors. Both the head and the block are not salvageable so I hope to find a complete engine for it. The head has a big piece that was pushed out by ice and the block is pushed out on the govenor side. A welding repair had been done before but it is shot for good now. It had so much rain down the exhaust that valves are completely rusted apart. The link should take you to photo #15 whis is the head and check out #16 which is the block. It may be some very bad problems but I still had a good "Farmall Day"!

I myself would lean toward parting it. That is about the first thing I look at for a restoration project. If the engine is repairable, ya maybe restore it. If not, find another tractor. That is kind of a motto I have. I restored a tractor that had a repairable froze engine. I parted out another one that the engine was unrepairable. I guess my work record reflects my motto. Unless you are really attached to this specific tractor, there are alot of M's out there to be had for restoration.

I think I would junk it,unless you know how the rearend is and trans, unless it has sentimental value and the sheet metal is good.I also looked back at the H photos of the block cracked.I think if you just sleeved over that crack you could of saved it.Use a polymere while sliding the sleeve in.I did that on a 1206 cracked just as bad,and have pulled 20' emplements in the fields and it hasnt leaked yet.

Bob, the head is wasted. The pic doesnt show me the block damage in full. The M is lined, as are all the letter tractors above cub with standard engines. I could probably repair your block, but at what cost would be determined by the actual internal damage. Your block could be gone. It is up to you, a true number block on a perfect restoration is a must, working tractor, buy a block. My 2cents. If it is paramount to have that block redone, email me @ smile5248@aol.com

Bob,

It kinda depends on how bad you want to restore it, how much you want to put into it and what kind of shape the rest of the tractor is in. I noticed a guy had a M block on the classifieds on this site - $225. I suppose this was a bare block, don't know. Don't know how much a head or all the rest of the engine innards would cost.

Best of luck to ya either way you go with this one.

Larry
