Looked at tractor that is for sale. Appears to be a Regular that is in pretty bad shape. I'm guessing it is froze, manifold and rear wheel's shot. Has a make shift loader on it with p.t.o. driven hydralics and a battery box on it for an H or M (with no lid but appears to be good). Couldn't find serial number anywhere. It had open steering gears and a Regular looking gas tank and oil filter. Strangely it had an F-20 looking air breather, manifold (with updraft exhaust and hole in the hood), and a 4 speed transimission (or atleast the gear shifter would shift into 5 slots). I guess my questions are 1. What is it worth? 2. Was any of the F-20 looking stuff ever released on the Regular? I mean why would you put an F-20 air breather, transmission, manifold, carb, and hood on a regular? Doesn't make much sense to me. If you had a good Regular and an F-20 with a blown engine (which is the only thing that makes sense) why wouldn't you put the engine off the regular in the F-20? I always thought that all the changes from factory accured upon the release of the F-20. After seeing some posts on here and looking at this tractor has got me thinking that maybe perhaps I am wrong on that.

Farmallgod - Would be interested but would have to be fairly close to Home, N. E. Kansas. Ludwig - The F-20 I believe had an all in one dual fuel tank with a divider inside and two spouts, the regular had a seperate little round tank on the backside of fuel tank for the gas. The F-20 had an oil filter very simular if not the same as an H, or atleast all of them that I have seen. The regular seems to have a shorter and larger around looking deal. I guess is what I'm trying to find out is if all Regulars had the same characteristics, and all F-20's had the same characteristics. This particular tractor looks to much like an F-20 to be a regular, and to much like a regular to be an F-20. Seems to be a two in one deal, but got to wondering if any of this was possible from factory. I was always told that open gears, downdraft manifold, and single spout main fuel tank, and so on, it was a regular. Or (( Did they release some of the changes before or after the F-20? LOL, I guess this tractor has got me second guessing my knowledge.

The tractor is in West virginia and I know the owner really wants to get rid of it.

It was very common to swap the F20 manifold and carb onto a Regular. In fact I still have the F20 manifold from my Regular. The Regular carbs are VERY primitive the F20 a bit less so.
In this case I would hazzard a guess that you've seen an F20 with either replaced steering gears or a replaced front bolster. As you've said that'd make more sense than moving the trans and engine.
I also wonder if you could remove the steering gear cover on an F20, say if you'd broken the steering gear, and have it look like a regular?

I can't tell the difference between an F20 and a Regular by gas tank and oil filter, can you enlighten me or was that just a guess?

Bill
Just a wild guess, but if the original owner was anything like my Dad back in the 40's-50's, when one part needed replacement, anything that would work was used, even if it came from another model. Thus the air cleaner, manifold, trans could have been replaced one at a time over a 20 year period. Or maybe it is really an F-20, with the front collumn replaced.
