Just rebuilt the head on my B, new carb too. Everytime I fire it up, she smokes for a second or two? What's up with that? New head through and through. However, the bottom-end is old. What am I missing??

"Cough!"

Andy,
White smoke is just the condensation, or the dew burning off. Gray smoke = lean, black smoke = rich, and blueish smoke = oil.

As the other guys have said a few seconds worth probably indicates a problem you should monitor for the next 30 to 40 years before taking any action.

Steve-IN, 49 Cubber, Farmall-Nut and rustyfarmall,

Thanks for the advice folks! Point taken Steve, I'll worry about it in another life-time. The smoke color is light blue - my daughter's favorite color "in the whole world". Anyway, feeling much better about it - thanks to you guys!

Andy

WHat color smoke is it?All of my tractors smoke just a little right after start up. Iassume its just that extra little bt of gas that choking them puts in the cylinders burning off.

She's just letting the John-Deeres know she's in town. I wouldn't sweat it.

You are more than likely getting a bit of oil leaking through the valve guides, if it only lasts a second or two, I wouldn't worry about it. This is better than having the guides too tight.
