Have a 1466 Turbo, and the clutch is unbearable. It's like you are trying to bend steel when you put the clutch in. I have a loader on it with a hay point and i and other people who use it dread unloading hay with that clutch. I ran a 1066 turbo, and that clutch was easier than an H's and got easier when was started. Is it normal for 1466's to have that hard of a clutch or how do i fix it?

With out the hydraulic assist it should not be that bad, I would make sure everything is free and greased.

I would definitly check for a hydraulic clutch--if you have a cab on it, it will be hard to see, but I have seen them either way. If it doesn't have a hyd. clutch there will just be a straight rod from the clutch pedal to where it goes into the bell housing. If it has the hyd. clutch there will be a small cylinder inline from the rod on at the clutch pedal. I have one neighbor with a '73 1066 that has a hyd. clutch and another with a '74 1066 that doesn't have one, but I am pretty sure it used to have one. I have one on my 966, and compared to my brothers 856, I couldn't live without it. You can add one on--if you can find one. I have been searching for one at salvage yards across Iowa and nobody has them and says if they do they are gone almost immediately--and they want no less than $300 for them. If you do have one, I would make sure that it is working, if it is--then I would say your pressure plate is getting bad or maybe you need to give the throwout bearing a couple shots of grease. Hope this helps. Sorry for being so long winded.

Bryce: If I remember correctly the 1066 and 1466 have the exact same clutch set up. Just checking the specs here this am I see they are both 14" clutch. Other than what I see on this spec sheet I am just going from memory. I did quite a thorough comparrison of the 1066 and 1466, some 28 years ago. I chose the 10 on a purely value for money basis. I didn't do so bad as the tractor I bought always put out 160 hp.
