Any way to lock in, or tie the clutch on a live PT

Made a mistake in buying a tractor with live PTO, now I found out it slips.

Rather than replace the clutch at breakdown, I'd rather bolt up the clutch assembly permanently, I'd be back to the 'ole reliable
straight-thru system.

Broke my own rule of never buying a gizmo, so now I gotta fix it.

IH 424

Thanks.

I would seriously reconsider giving up such a desirable thing as a live PTO. Fix it. It should last for another 35 years.

I'm guessing from your post it's an IH 424? If so I don't think you can do anything to lock it out but repair the two-stage clutch. If it's slipping in PTO I would bet it won't be long before it's slipping all the time. Even so, I don't think it would be any easier labor-wise to split it and modify things to make it non-live.

We have a 424 with non-live pto. (Live was an option.) Power steering and live pto would definately make a tractor out of it.

You can not change that with adjustment. You have not even said what model of tractor, however any I can think of will cost you 4 times as much to do that as to fix it right.

Gizmo?

Wow, thats alot like calling the internal combustion engine a gizmo, you can do it the other way, but theres alot to be said for having it.
Fix it right and it'll do right by you. Muck with it and you'll have a mucked with tractor. You want a non-live PTO go get a Farmall M or something similar.

I have to agree with Ludwig. Nothing better than a live pto... Get yourself a manual, and adjust it according to specs. You'll be glad you have the live pto. If you don't, try out a Ford 9N with a sickle mower, mowing close to buildings and trees, you'll see what I mean.

How about a bush hog? With the typical braking power of a 9-N you won't get stopped till half way to next zip code.

It wasn't mine, it belonged to a neighbor who would rather have us pull him out of a swamp than spend a few bucks.
