I have a 1941 H that I am restoring. I am planning on using a PPG paint and primer. I want to paint all the replacement hoses red along with the tractor. Should I paint/prime them with the same paint that I use on the rest of the tractor? Also, is the PPG paint number 71310 the same thing as the IH 2150?

I repainted my Farmall 100 about 2 months ago and used the PPG 71310 code. I love it. Real deep red and identical to the eye to the original color. PPG even had an industrial paint which worked great. I used grey PPG primer with hardener, and then sprayed the red on top of that. Worked great. I had very few hoses to paint(onlu upper and lower radiator) and the paint stuck fine. Stuck very well to new electrical wiring too. My thoughts.

I painted my two point hitch hose's along with the rest of my Super C. Months later they where still tacky. If you would touch one you would have a red hand. Not sure what was up with that.

71310 is the IH 2150 equivalent. Belts and hoses, I would leave unpainted. I think IH painted them, if they were on the tractor when it was painted. The paint won't stick very well and will peel off -- just like it did on the original tractor. If you ever have to remove a hose for some reason the paint will come off anyway. But, to answer your question, I know of no special prep for belts and hoses, (I suppose you can scuff the hoses for better adhesion), and use the same paint. They will look better black.

Although most people use 2150 or equivalent, your tractor was painted with IH 50, a brighter red. PPG 70093.
