Left side will not "plow" but rides upwards and will not engage soil, I have tried adjusting spring tension and cultivator shoes to no avail. Any help appreciated

Alan: This could be caused by several things. A bend in your cultivator frame or lift frame. Comparing with other tractor-cultivator set ups may be the only way to see this, as there are optical illusions on these.

The lift frame could be assembled wrong, under front of tractor where the lower linkage connects are the castings turned same on both sides. The right one will only fit one way, The left can be installed backwards.

The springs can get very weak. I had this happen once. Both springs were bad and sometimes one would penetrate while the other not. Mine were both bad so I was never exactly sure what was going to happen. New springs cured it. They aren't cheap.

The other possibility is lift frame adjustment, have you looked at all adjustments?
