There is a H at an auction saturday and I am wondering what it is worth. It is a 1951, not a dent in any of the sheet metal, good rear rubber, front rubber needs replaced, good paint, has gaurd on belt pulley, has light bar tool box, good shape, stored inside, motor is locked up but there is no battery to try and start it. After all said and done what would this tractor be worht if it was restored. Located in Iowa.
Thanks, Adam

$1200-1500, more or less. If it is to be "restored", if it needs no engine work, you will put a minimum of $2000 into it, maybe considerably more, because, regardless of the way it looks, there will be a lot of things that need fixing. Do not buy it unless you can hear it run. Once you have restored it you might get $2500 for it, probably less. Unless you replace absolutely everthing. As the other post said it is not rare, IH made about 390000 of them.

Hello Adam,

I bought this ’45 H last fall for $1,200. I unfortunately for me did not do any research before buying it!

I knew it would need tires but didn’t dream how much I would spend on them and everything else!! Tires, wheels, fenders, engine block (rebuilt the engine), engine head, PTO cover, battery box, belt pulley. I don’t have the talent to do the work so I paid others to do it for me. It had already been painted some years back. I very rapidly invested $5,000 in a tractor that may be worth ½ that!

I found out the hard way why I should have investigated (like you are doing) before making the decision to purchase one tractor over another.

Unless you really like to work on these tractors and have the time and talent, you can purchase a tractor all ready to go for a lot less money than rebuilding one!

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but a restored tractor will never bring as much as what you have in it, unless it is a very rare tractor, and a farmall H is not a rare tractor.
