I had not heard/read anything about IH coming out with a new Pick-Up. While reading a copy of Motor Trend they said something about an article in "TRUCK TREND" about this.

Went the the web site - www.trucktrend.com - and low and behold they are showing an article about testing in their words a "Hulking Pick-Up on Steroids" in the Arizona Desert.

The article is not shown on the web site, we will have to go out a buy a copy of "Truck Trend". Does anyone here know anything about this?????

John: One other item I forgot to mention is in that same area, there is a lot of customizing of relatively new vehicles. So in fact what I may have seen is a Dodge, Ford or Chevy someone has done a number on. I don't get too excited about new vehicles anymore, I guess that is a sign of my age. However I did pickup on the fact others must be even less interested than I, as had a guy the other day telling about his son's new Ford Dakota.

John: I don't know about the article, however aprox one year ago I was parked at a local shopping mall waiting for my good wife. A vehicle pulled up facing me in the oposite line. An SUV that I didn't recognize. I got out of my car walked to the side of the SUV to have a better look. On the side was the word NAVISTAR. I briefly spoke with driver who was not very forthcomming with much info. It was quite clear he did not wish to talk about it. This was a heavy 3/4 ton vehicle.

I live in Strathroy Ontario. I have since talked with a man in the insurance industry who advises me that the Detroit-Windsor area is a hotbed for prototype vechicles. Design engineers with various manufacturers have budgets for building these prototype vehicles. Some of these guys just want an exclusive vehicle for their own use, while others are seriously promoting the idea to their company. The vehicle I saw was white. I have since seen what I considered to be another copy of the same vehicle only in black, this one however I saw on highway so not positive it was the same. I can tell I have never seen any other than the two. My insurance friend tells me these vehicles go pretty much un noticed in the metropoliton Detroit-Windsor area. It's only when they stray to some far flung rural area that someone notices them.

The other item I might mention is 6 months ago the Navistar plant at Chattam Ontario was slated for closure. The latest news is they have saved the plant and it will continue to operate. I haven't heard anything on what they are building.

If they did come out witk one as good as they were in the ealy 70's they would be the best. I could always get 12 13 miles to gallon when the rest got 6 7 miles to gallon and guts to spair.
