I am looking at an A the owner says is an A1. This is not an industrial type so he says, is this really a farmall style and does anyone know if its special for any reason? No one seems to know anything about it.

Serial number prefix for the Super A-1 is FAA-1, serial numbers run from 356001-357978. If it is an industrial, Super or otherwise it will have a heavy duty square front axle, rather than round. The serial number prefix will be IAA. It will say "International" on the hood instead of Farmall, if it is still readable, unless the wrong decals were used after a repaint. Industrial A's were originally red, yellow, or any other color the "Industry" requested. Some were also used as delivered from the factory as farm tractors.

Thanks for the help. Does being an A1 make it more rare? The tractor I saw started but was very rough looking, any guess to ballpark value?

94000 Super A's, 1978 Super A1's. I wouldn't pay much more for a junky Super A1, maybe a couple hundred dollars, but it will be worth more restored. I won't guess how much more because I've never priced one.

If it's a Super A1, then it'll have the C-123 engine with water pump, taller grill (by about an inch) and the fuel tank will have a gap about the hydraulic unit (again about an inch). There were alot less Super A1's made, and in my book, a lot more desirable. Slightly more power, check for serial numbers somewhere around 1954, don't have my book in front of me, Not exactly sure where the A-1's were

Bob, The Farmall started production in 1939, the Super A started 1947 I think. The Super A had the touch control hydraulic unit under the gas tank. The A1 followed the Super A. So that tractor would have the hydraulic unit also. The serial numbers are under the seat on the support and also stamped under the #1 spark plug on the block.
You can check the serial number off to the left of this site.
