I'm replacing the reservoir mounted spool valves on my tractor with an aftermarket spool valve. The new valve has an inlet and outlet port, but the reservoir that the original spool valve mounts to has three ports. They are 5/16",7/16", and 9/16" in size. I think the smallest port is a signal port to prevent pressure build-up. I would like to keep the installation as clean as possible, and would prefer to remove the original spool valve all together. Can anybody help me figure out how to plumb this thing, from three ports to two ports? Thanks in advance for your help!?

The valve block closest to the reservoir in the rear gang of valves contains the safety valve and pressure control, which are really good things to have in a positive-displacement hydraulic system. Trying to slap an aftermarket control valve in without something to replace these features is an extremely bad idea (IMHO). Why do you want to replace the factory system, anyway???

Well, the valves are shot, and the handles and shafts are worn out as well. The cost of the replacement parts for the handles alone is way more than the aftermarket valve, and I'd still have a system that won't hold a load.

Is a new pressure check valve required in addition to the new valve if I bypass the old valve altogether? What exactly does the safety valve do? I would think the new valve would have an internal check valve to prevent reverse flow. Am I wrong?
