I need to adjust the clutch on my M. First do I lengthen or shorten the rod? How much free travel should I have and where is it measured? Thanks in advance.

The manual calls for a free travel of 1 1/8 inches, measured where the pedal rests against the transmission top cover. However, many of the Ms have a lot of wear where the clutch pedal mounts on the brake/clutch shaft making the pedal loose and floppy. So exact measuring there may not mean too much. Just make sure there is free travel of about an inch and that the release bearing is not against the clutch fingers when the clutch is engaged. And.. make sure it disengages completely when you push the pedal in.
