i have a 52 farmall cub f-series, when i put the pto in gear and try to mow in 3rd gear it stalls, or boggs out, and wants to die. is this normal? i have tried to shift up from 2nd but my gears grind. is there any way to fix this? it takes 2 hours to mow 2 acres. thanks for any help!!

If you are trying to mow in 3rd with a Cub you would save time by using a push mower. I just rebuilt my Cub this year and it does ok in 2nd now, but that is with a 42" mower and a new motor. I don't know what size deck you have under it, but I would consider myself lucky if it mows what you need to in 2nd gear. I myself mow 2.5 acres a week with a 42" deck in 1st gear and it takes me 3 hours. You can figure 2nd is twice as fast as first or a little faster. You need to remember that 3rd gear on a Cub is like road gear on any other tractor. This is just my 2 cents worth. Bill {Antique Acres}
