Personally, I would stick with the 1086 - in my area they seem to be the most reliable. 1486 had more power but basically the same transmission and rearend, several neighbors have had reliability problems. The 1586 had the dumb 3-speed transmission and was unhandy speeds in every gear. Our 1086 has 8000 hours on it with little problem. A bearing went out in the rearend, balls ran through the gears and we had to rebuild it. Engine was overhauled just because we could afford it a couple years ago, only used 1 gallon of oil in 100 hours with 7200 hours on engine. DT414 is what it has in it. Our 1086 put out 145 hp on the dyno after overhaul. Been a good rig. Things to watch out for: Sloppy shifting as a result of being used with a loader. They didn't shift great to begin with, and loader use wears things out faster. The TA - original lasted 7500 hours with normal useage. We put in the mechanical diode TA. When it went out the tractor would jump when letting the clutch out - also wouldn't pull a full load in low. There is a nice 1086 near here with a nice loader on it - about 6500 hours, fresh overhaul, not beat up or anything, I think they want $10,000. Saw a decent 1486 sell at auction last year with 5500 hours and duals for $6500. Most people don't want them because they don't have a power shift or synchro transmission.
