I went and looked at a '79 1486 today, and want to know if you think it is worth it. I didn't get a chance to start it because it wan't pluged in and was too cold. It was just painted by a highschooler for practice, and doesn't look bad at all, the cab is nice inside, interior not bad either. No duals, but nice set of tires. I believe that he said the air and heat worked. But the downside is that the hyd. pump is bad. He said he would sell it for 13,000 with a new pump installed, or around 12,000 as is. A new clutch has been put in recently. I realy like the tractor, the shifting is very solid. Do you think it is worth it? I think it is especially with a new hyd. pump. I just need your oppinion.

you can pick up a good looking 88 series around here for that kind of money. You sure it has the old style hyd. pump? I replaced one on my dads 1980 1486 it was the new style, cost almost 900 bucks just for the pump.

It sounds like you want to use this tractor. What you have to remember is that the "86"series came outin 1976which is nearly 30 yrs.ago . we don't know how long Case IH will continue to make parts .I have already had some trouble with them and had to improvise with my 656.I like IH'Sand have owned many ,but be careful spending the kind of money you are talking on one you will use. A lot of letter series parts are around as after mkt or used as they were made for 15 yr.

A lot of it depends on where you live where im from they can sell for 13 easy but i bought my 1086 from central illinois because that region is known for taking care of there tractors and it only cost 8 just like Kieth said, and was a lot better ( not just paint but had new paint) tractor than any tractor i could find in southwest missouri. Plus i would put hydralic pumps in for $1000 any day of the week the pump itself cost about $300 i have a 1568 too and repaced both the main and little ( power st pump) for 500. If they tell u it is hard they are lieing now the park pin in the tran is a differenet story.(doing that now)

It appears to be $3000.00 to $4000.00 high compared to central Illinois prices .There is one going to sell at McLean ,Ill next Sat 1/17/04 You can see it at seedequipment.com .It ain't bad and I'll bet it doesn't sell for more than $8000.00 to $8500.00 .Check it out

I watched a 1586 sell at auction just yesterday, it was a 79 model one owner, with a verifiable maintenance record, and about 2,000 hours on a new engine. It sold with a complete set of front weights and rear duals with very good rubber all around. Sold for $10,000.
