After complete rebuild I have everything correct
to run my 1941 H family tractor on distillate
(todays equivallent) except a manifold with operable baffle. Any ideas?

There really isn't any point in burning a distillate equivelant fuel today, except for perhaps a start up and shut down dimenstration at a show or something of that nature. Just, you know, to show people the correct procedure on how these tractors were run when new. Alot of people (young generation) don't know how distillate fuel was burned as far as preheating the engine and so forth. I would likewise bet the baffle is rusted in the gas position. Wouldn't matter much at all what position it was in for just doing a demonstration. But as far as going out and running all day, just burn gas. No point in burning low grade fuel. Deisel, and kerosene and so forth are generally higher in price anyways. Back in the 40's these fuels were burned because of a significant difference in fuel price. Just my 2 cents.

the hot manifold is the most important part of running a tractor on low grade fuel. without it the fuel will not vaporize properly and it will dillute the motor and ruin its lubrication properties. i don't underestand why anyone would want to do this.

Good luck. But if you think that is hard to find, I've been looking for a distillate manifold for a Super H for two years with no luck.

Bob, I don't think the baffle is a crucial element in running your distilate H. You do need the heat shield that goes around the manifold and you need shutters to keep it in the high end of "RUN" on your guage. The baffle had several positions and it may even be stuck in the right spot..the H will run fine on distilate even with the baffle being inoperable. I tried to find a new one for my distilate H with no luck, a welding shop was able to make a repair to it and it is in good condition. I bought a new manifold for another H but it is not the distilate style, a new manifold makes a heck of a difference...good luck with your H...Mike in Exeter Ontario

There may be a few New Old Stock (NOS) around the country, but be prepared to pay for it. Unless you can happen to find one in a junkyard that isn't rusted... Every one I've seen is rusted in the gasoline position...
