What was first year for fasthitch 52 or 53?

I read that 1953 was the first year farmall put the fasthitch on the Super C and believed it until I saw a Super C with fast hitch...Seriel number on the tag was 132265...a 1952.

Was this an upgrade to an earlier tractor or did Farmall put the fast hitch on the 52s? Does anyone know?

Bama Binder,

We have a '52 and a '53 Super C, both with
fast-hitch. I believe they look identical
in the hitch area. The 2 tractors came from
long use places, and were always that way.
I do not have serial # in front of me, but
only difference is the '52 has the older style
lights than the '53 with the sealed beam ones.
Controls and all else look the same. The '53
has the old "Wards Riverside" tires on rear...
cool tread ! And has single front...'52 is
tricycle front. Neat tractors to have !

IH didn't make changes by model year like the car companies, but put them on when they were ready in most cases. I don't recall the serial number for the first production Super C with Fast Hitch, but the Fast Hitch was available as a field installation kit for the earlier Super Cs and regluar Cs.

Thanks Guy!!! I just bought your "Originality Guide to Farmall Tractors" (Please excuse me if I got the title wrong...I don't have it in front of me)...My question actually stems from what was printed in the book and the fact that I looked at a 52 with fast hitch..I didn't know if I had hit the jackpot with a very early 52 model with an original fasthitch...I don't suppose there is a way to tell.

Anyway, it is a pleasure exchanging posts with the author of the book. My wife has threatened to hide it from me because I spend so much time looking at it. Thanks again and if you write another book I'll buy it...Bama
