I just purchased a 706 farmall 282 diesel tractor for a decent price. I don't know a lot about engines but, I noticed it had a lot of blowby so I took off the exaust pipe and checked the exaust manifold and there is quit a bit of oil in it. I don't really know what to do next? Should I spend the money now to have the engine totally rebuilt or is there something else I can do or fix before I go that route.

Thank you, Brian Hearn

What about valve seals? could they also be putting oil in the exhaust manifold. Just a thought.

I overhauled my 706 with the 263 engine my self for about 500.00. I had two pistons with broken rings.

in my opinion rebiuld is in order. if there is that much oil, the rings are gone. this is what i would do if it were mine.
