I am interested in a cub. Looked at a very nice lo boy yesterday. The owner wants $2000. Reasonable price? What if any are the disadvantages of a lo boy over a regular cub? Help!

Brian,
Three weeks ago I purchased a 1971 low boy. I paid $2500 but it came with a hi-low range, belly mower, plow blade and the biggest snow blower I've seen. All were original implements. I've ordered shop manuals and have begun the cleaning and fluid changing. I'm looking now for some chains and have just found this site. I will be asking for alota help from the folks here. Good luck.

Brian,
Around here in Central Texas you'll be lucky to find any CUB, regular or Lowboy for that price. Remember, that is the asking price, not necessarily the taking price. I believe the Lowboy CUBs are generally priced a bit higher than the regular CUBs, but as with any tractor, the price should reflect the condition. If it runs well and has decent tires (especially the rears) and the sheetmetal hasn't been beat up that would be a decent price here. The location makes all the difference, as a CUB in the tobacco growing areas of the East would probably bring $3000 in decent shape due to demand.

My two cents,
Phil

$2000 seems to be the upper end of the spectrum unless there is something really special about the machine. I looked at one that they wanted $2500 for but it came with a ton of implements, loader, plow, disk, blade, sicklebar, belly mower, etc.
It all depends on the condition and implements.
Unless its in really great shape $2000 is too much for just the tractor.

I just wanted to add that I think the Cub Low-boy is one of the best looking Cubs out there. Sure is sleek-looking! Wouldn't mind having one . . .
