A real special thanks to Bob M. I used your diagram to 12-volt my 1944 M. It started right up exactly as it was supposed to.What beautiful music. I wouldn't have had a clue without your schematic Thanks again. I also installed a m&w live hyd pump at the same time. The gears involved seemed to be tight enough when I put it in but it seems a little noisy when I started it up. I'm debating whether or not to tear it down again for another look UGH!! I know you did that a while back to repair you farmall. Is any noise acceptable or am I asking for a melt down. Was just going to use it for a light snow plow. No loader. Thanks again for your great help. Dick in Vermont.

Thanks Bart! (...you make me blush!)

I have no experience with the M&W live pump. But we've got a couple SM's and an SH with IHC live pumps. They all have a distinctive sound when you stand on the pump side of the engine - kind of a gear whine. It's most noticable if the engine is otherwise quiet (at idle, quiet valves, good muffler, etc). Also is particularly apparent when first started in very cold weather.

Make sure however the reservoir is full, the reservoir suction strainer or filter (if equipped) is clean, and the suction line between the reservoir and pump inlet is not kinked/collapsed. Any of these will cause pump cavitation and whining noises.

Otherwise if the hydraulics lift your snowblade OK, and you're not getting any slapping or knocking noises from the pump, I'd be inclined just to use it.

Good luck! If it's snowing in VT like it is here (upstate NY) right now, you'll have snow to plow this afternoon!

Bob M. You exactly described the pump noise. Kind of a gear whine. I'll cross my fingers and wait a while. They are predicting 6 to 12 inches of snow tonight in Shefield, Vt. Close the door for us. We have enough for this year. Thanks again for the great advice. Dick in Vermont.
