There is a check level plug half way up on left side of rear casting. Tranny and rear end share the same oil. It takes ten gallons.

Get yourself an operator's manual. Parts books are very helpful too.

Ooops, looks like I double posted after a 12 hour interval.

Ya, it does hold six gallons. I always buy five gallon buckets and the last time I changed oil I bought 10 gallons. Forgot that I didn't use it all.

The idea of changing it is a good one. I've been around H's all my life & know that C's, H's & M's all like to collect water in the rear ends. I'd be suprised if you don't have a gallon or two of it in there. After it sets overnight (or longer) loosen the big plug under the back end (make sure the swinging drawbar is out of the way) & GENTLY screw it out by hand. Push in on it so when you get through the last thread, you can tip the bottom away from the casting. Do this when its rather cool out, so the grease is stiff. I'd be willing to bet big $$ that you get a lot of water out of there before any grease starts to run. Put the plug back in and then check the level. If the grease that runs out looks good-leave it-if not, change it. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

The oil level plug is on the left side about half way up the transmission case around the clutch pedal . It holds 6 gal.

There's a square head plug (half inch head, I think) close to the clutch pedal.
Unless you're certain it was recently done, you ought to change the gear oil. For six gallons of 90wt you can learn a lot about the condition of the machine.
Owner's Manuals are about thirty bucks from the Tractor Manual link top left of this page. Not a bad investment, either.
