I have the original 6V equipment for an H Farmall, but becuase I like to run alot of lights I will be converting to 12V. I have done this before on an M. Just curious if anyone knows of a tiny, cheap alternator that will fit under the hood of an H on the original generator bracket.
Thanks,
Aaron

I just replaced a Delco 3 wire alternator on my IH 364 diesel that had been previously converted. You can buy the Autozone "house brand" with a 1 year warranty for $20.99 or a lifetime warranty for $36.99. I asked them to test it before I left with it. They did, it was putting out great and looked good to boot.

I have placed the standard size Delco wire alternator under the hood of an H. I flipped the bracket around, and it had to be mounted right against the valve cover using a shorter belt. I had to slip the belt over the pulley first, then mount the alternator.. You can get used GM alternators at your local bone yard.

Aaron:

I know the page below is not H orientated but Cub orientated, however, a lot of Cubs are being converted to 12v - why I do not know, but they are.

Most are using the Hitachi alternator which fits under the hood of a Cub, so it should fit under the hood of an H.

Click the link below, then Maintenance Tips and Techniques then 12 Volt Conversion with a Hitachi 14231 Alternator.

Hope this helps.
