We have a n MTA that my grandpa bought at auction in 1979. The previous owner bought it at our local IH dealer in April, 1955. I had the tractor re-painted in 2000, and it seemed to show some traces of blue on the frame, as well as clearly showing that there had been two sets of decals after we sandblasted it. The son of the original owner told me that they had never had it repainted. Does anyone know of any specific buyers of MTA's who would have possibly had them painted blue? It seems strange to me that it would have made its way back to a dealer in red paint after only one year. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've noticed a sort of blue color show up on the frames of H's and M's I was cleaning up and I think it just may be a sort of scale that comes out on hot rolled steel shapes which is what those frame channels are. I'd guess it's a sort of "carbon blueing" thing.

You asked for buyers of blue painted equipment. The New York State Thruway has had blue trucks and equipment for a long time. Not sure if they were in business or used blue paint in 1954. Can't see them buying or leasing row crop tractors anyway. They could have used alot of I-6s however.

I have noticed this same color on the frames of other IH tractors, as well as the frame of my #31 loader. I think it has to do with the various pigments used to make the red paint, but I am not sure of this. I really doubt that your tractor had ever been painted blue, but stranger things have happened.
