How do i know if my clutch is bad or needs adjusted. When I'm moving I cant shift into another gear. Is it worn out?

Al, you really need to get a manual in order to adj. T/A and clutch. If you like, an I/T manual will work, but the IH books from Binder Books is much better. Send me an e-mail when you get the manual or I can copy the pages and mail them to you out of the IH manual.

I've found my 350U is a bear to shift if the TA isn't adjusted properly - Moving or standing still. Try pulling your TA lever ALL the way back. If it shifts easier, you need to adjust the TA.

Tractors of this generation are not designed to be shifted while moving (although it is possible to do with practice). The correct technique for most situations is to put it in the gear you want while at a standstill, then let out the clutch.

It sounds as though you don't have an Operators Manual. Good reprints are available from Binder Books (.com). It shows and tells how to make the adjustments to the clutches (and a whole lot of other things that aren't necessarily obvious, but are important if you want to maintain your tractor properly).

Good luck.

They shift when moving just fine, as long as you don't try to shift from 5th to 4th etc, or drop too many gears at once while its still rolling. Shifting up is not a problem. There will be minimal gear clash occasionally, but the gears also clash while standing still, unless you wait several seconds at idle before shifting. If he has a live pto it should work even with the PTO running.

Is there any adjustment left in clutch ? The clutch release shaft thar runs through clutch housing/torque tube has a slot for pedal adjustment. If bolt that runs through shaft & into clutch pedal is in rearmost position of slot, then there's no more adjustment left. This adj. procedure is for tractors without torque amplifier. If yours has T/A then it's quite different! Let us know which you have!!!!
