Was wondering about this model, seen one siting along the road forsale. What engine and what transmission do they use? Does it have a torque? It was a rowcrop wide front. Whats it Worth? Just looking from the road seem to be a pretty straight tractor.

As mentioned below, a 544 is really just a 656 with a 4-cylinder engine. Like the 656, it could have the 5-speed gear drive transmission with the optional TA, or the Hydro transmission. The gas engine for the 544 was the C-200. It is the 4-cylinder version of the C-301 6-cylinder found in the 806. It is a very cheaply-built sleevless design. The diesel engine for the 544 was the D-239, which is the 4-cylinder version of the D-358 German diesel found in the 826, 786, late 886, 3088, and 3288. Very good engine. We have three tractors with 358's, two of them have 8000 hours and have never been touched. In addition to the engine and transmission options, the 544 was also avalible as a Row-Crop or Utility. To me, a gas-Hydro-Utility 544 would be worth the least, and a diesel-gear drive-Row Crop would be worth the most. A local AGCO dealer has a very nice 544 gas- Hydro-Row Crop with new paint on their lot, they want $7000 for it.
