Once in a while a fellow comes across a rare piece of marketing history. I have one of the few "Lady Farmall" tractors produced. In 1941, with the war looming on the horizon, one of the marketing directors at IHC realized that if the men were fighting the war, the farms would have to be run by the women. He decided that women would prefer tractors in pastel colors, so he had some test market tractors produced in pastel colors, and designated "Lady Farmall". Unfortunately, it was a marketing flop much like "New Coke" as most men forbade their wives to buy those tractors. The test tractors were repainted the standard red color. I found vestiges of the original color, "grape", on mine, and have repainted it in its original colors.

You are lucky they didn't try to sell a Mary Kay model.

big fred, Wow!!! Don't let my wife see this one, she'll say, "Hon, it goes with your grey hair". How many of these "Lady Farmalls" were produced? Before I read the complete caption, thought IH had gotten hold of some Navy Surplus "Haze Grey" paint:-) Glad you painted it the right way.

How many produced? One, so far. But I'm thinking of getting an M and maybe going with kind of a apple green. Sorry, Bob. I had to make up a story to go with it, after a co-worker got ticked at me for painting my tractor purple. It started when my wife asked what color I was going to paint it. I asked her if she had a preference, and she said "yes, paint it like Rydell's (my grandson) toy tractor". So I did.

You rascal, you had us hooked. I wish you'd waited a little longer to fess up, I'd liked to have seen Harold H's response. To make the story a little more believable, you need to add a makeup mirror.

Now, they wouldn't have needed a makeup mirror back then, all the men were away fightin' the war.

BF, You one wiley cy-ote! Even my wife believed you and she a'int ever been easy to fool!. Just proves that people can be gullable at times. BTW she said that make-up mirror would have been nice option along with a dashboard fan to keep dust outa her eyes. FB
