I have recently purchased a 1947 W-9 SN WCB23978 W12B. For starters what does W12B indicate and under every thing, tin work and red paint, the original paint is yellow. I dont understand this. Help please Thanks
Kibbee

W12B means pneumatic tires, swinging drawbar, starting and lighting. As the other post said, many of these tractors were sold to highway depts, etc, yellow was a very common color for those applications

Somewhere on the hood under all that red paint you might find a 12 or 14 character "asset number". Fleets of these tractors were purchased by the US government for forestry service.

IH's could be ordered with any color. Yellow was very common with road maintenance etc. I'm not sure about the W12B.
Hope this helps,
Aaron
