Cub oil pressure

My oil pressure drops after 1/2 to 1 hour of running.

I use 5-50 synthetic and gound the crank and put in new bearings a few years ago, so I am assuming it is the oil pump.

Are oil pumps available?

Bob

Thanks to all for your advice.

I think based upon the notes I have seen, I'll:

Check the gauge first
Check the pressure relief valve
then check the oil pump.

I don't think the oil is the problem, as synthetic oil actually maintains its viscosity better than mineral oils through a wide temperature range. I've used several different oils including 30W with the same result.

There area lot of purists out there and I understand that is is difficult to counter the success of 50 years of reliability. One must also consider the fact that the 30W bought today is FAR superior to the 30W bought 50 years ago. Every year the standards go up and the letter rating of the oil changes. (SG, etc.)

Rudi, your manual page is very helpful. My neighbor gave me enough of a model 189 plow to make it worth restoring, but not enough to make it a cheap project!

Thanks

Oil Press Sure: Better check with the lubrication experts. When you work that synthetic 5W-50 it gets hot and thin and the flow resistance drops. The pressure drop is probably just a direct reflection of that hot op condition.
You could write or email the synthetic oil manufacturer to get their technical opinion.

You may want to try replacing the oil pressure relief valve first. replacing the one in my cub brought the oil pressure back into specs.
